Personal information management (PIM) is the study of the way people gather, organise, retreive and reuse their own information. It is usually in contrast to organisational data, such as large databases or customer relations managment (CRM) software, as PIM is concerned more with small data, often of an informal or individual nature. However, PIM software may be used by people in organisations, for example, contact lists, as well as in domestic settings, for example budget planners. PIM has often been the target application for work on intelligent agents.
